First day of “Project Making it Through, A Little Warrior’s Story”
A year ago, someone asked me, “ if you were to meet your younger you, what would you say”? After deep though and emotional searching, I though “we made it through” was what my soul was saying. It was all so very emotional, sort of a healing going on... I started thinking of all the little girls going through so much thinking hopefully one day they’ll be able to say the same. I knew I had a mission. With my camera by my side, I could document the stories of young girls fighting against enormous odds and challenges, I approached an organization for young girls promoting empowerment, they opened their doors wide open for me.
When I set out to do this, I never knew how humbled and brought down to my knees I would be. While I knew it wouldn’t be easy, I never knew just how hard it would be. These are the faces of victims of abuse, incest, indentured servitude, abject poverty and yet, they smile...
They are making it through. On this journey, I will share their stories.. please come with me. First day . I get in my car , quite ironic the song that comes on is "Lost Children" by Tom Petty, it just had to be a sign.
"Lord please watch over, all these lost children, born to chase the hurricane,
Please shine a light down on those who wander, filled with hunger and pain..."
I knew I had to do this.
This is Haiti, but it could be anywhere. I will be sharing the stories of little girls, young ladies and women, all warriors, dealing with unthinkable situations, making it through....
