In Sumpango Guatemala, on November 1st ( the Day of the Dead) thousands of people gather for the annual giant kite festival. This popular event dates back to the Pre-Columbian era, when kites represented a union between the underworld and the land of the living. Today the kites are used to communicate with the living rather than the dead and are designed with political and social messages of peace and hope.
