curators choice of the competition: World Street Photography Awards 2016 - Urban Geometry 3
This is a shot taken is "Parque das Nações", Lisbon; Portugal. It´s a Calatrava´s footbridge all made of iron and glass and the place is a well known spot for amateur and professional photographers. I had gone there before, many times, and I had this composition in mind for a long time but I never liked any of the previous shots. One thing or the other, in the frame, always did not came right.
This time, I spent a few hours there, just waiting and trying some diferent composition solutions and when I made this shot, with this angle, pov and elements distribution in the frame it´s pleased me for the same but opositte reasons that made me not like the other shots made in the previous sessions I have done there.
In my humble opinion, the visual "trigger" here was done by the middle iron section in frame that, with this pov and angle, made it look like a "sword" or like a "cross" and the people passing by near, made it look "strange" because of that "mental image association".
Because of these reasons I think the picture have enought "abstracy" to "take off" from the reallity were it was made, allowing several "readings" and personal interpretations to the viewer.
